KICS Summer Conference 2021

by Duk Kyung Kim, Inha University, Korea

The KICS Summer Conference 2021 was held on June 16-18, 2021, at Ramada Plaza, Jeju Island, Korea. More than 1,200 researchers participated and made over 740 paper presentations.

Considering the current COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held in a hybrid manner. All the main events were simultaneously broadcast through YouTube to all participants and the regular presentation sessions were operated live on Zoom. Additionally, posters and undergraduate sessions were presented via recorded videos. The attendees who participated in person enjoyed the events safely by following COVID-19 prevention and quarantine guidelines.

As one of the flagship conferences, the KICS Summer conference continues to be among the largest academic conferences in Korea. The conference has provided the optimal platform for exchanging new ideas and research results on ICT convergence and expanding the communication research community for all participants, including industries, academia, research institutes, and the Korean government.

The conference offered an array of programs, including various special sessions by research group/society, branch, IITP, ITRC, ETRI, KT, TTA, NIA, KIAPI/5G Forum/6G Forum/Giga Korea. A special presentation on “An invitation to industrial AI” was made by Young-Han Kim, CEO of Gauss Labs Inc. Moreover, seven in-depth tutorials on free space optical communications, THz communications, next-generation satellite communications, urban air traffic management, and 6G were provided. Furthermore, five young researcher made presentations, a venture story, and a new-business session which attracted ample interest from all the participants. For researchers joining from abroad, the English technical programs were provided in English.

I would like to announce that the next event, the KICS Winter Conference 2022, will be held on February 9–11, 2022, at Alpensia Resort, Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province, Korea. Detailed information on the conferences will be posted on the official website (https://conf.kics.or.kr).
