Technical Committees

Broadcasting and Media Communication

Broadcasting and Media Communication Committee was organized to study and share the information on image communication areas, including still image and video coding, flow control, and error resilience over mobile, internet, or cable network, etc. Transcoding for inter-network communication and Peer-to-Peer network communication are recently focused on. Main application areas are various, such as HDTV, UHDTV, DMB, IPTV, Mobile Phone, Digital Game, etc. This committee is deeply involved in standardizing activities, MPEG and VCEG, and co-hosting the conference on signal processing and the workshop on image processing and image understanding, annually.

Coding and Information Theory

The coding and information theory society (CITS) was founded in 1996 as a technical committee of the Korean Information and Communications Society (KICS). The obj!ective of CITS is to study and share the most advanced research results in the areas of error correction codes, information theory, network information theory, sequence, communication signal design, discrete mathematics, cryptography, etc. CITS was officially registered as the Korean Chapter of IEEE Information Theory Society and has organized many domestic and international conferences such as ISITA2006 and ISIT2009.
CITS annually offers three workshops (usually in February, May, and October) to share the most advanced research results in coding and information theory. Each workshop consists of three technical presentations about recent research results and one special lecture to overview hot research topics. CITS also annually offers 4-day class on error correction codes to graduate students and researchers in February, which consists of 8 fundamental lectures. Also, in summer, CITS offers short 3-day class on advanced topics such as various communication standards and network information theory.

Communication Networks

The Technical Committee on Communication Networks provides many activities and events for the committee members to promote mutual friendship, to participate technical discussions, and to collect the most up-to-date information on communication networks. Its area of interest includes switching, routing, ad hoc and mobile networks, wireless network protocols, modeling and simulation, network control and management, and future networks. It organizes annual workshops and seminars, e.g. NS-2 Workshop, Cross-Layer Design Workshop, and Committee's Summer Workshop.

Communications Policy and Management

Communications Standard

The obj!ective of this Technical committee is to study the technology related with the development, implementation and testing for the IT standards, and to study core technology related with the IT standards, and to collect and disseminate various technical information related with the IT standards.

Data Communications

Detection and Estimation Theory

Digital Cable TV and Telecommunication

The committee on Digital Cable TV and Tele- communication(DCT) was founded in April 2009 within the Korean Information and Communications Society(KICS) and focuses various aspects on digitalization of Cable TV and Telecommunication. HFC network is very important infra-structure for broadcasting and telecommunication in Korea. Using this infra-structure, DCT will continue study and discuss TPS(Triple Play Service), QPS(Quadruple Play Service) and additional convergence services for Broadcasting and Telecommunication.

Digital Home

Digital Home committee was founded in 2005, and focuses on the areas of home networking, intelligent home server, middleware, context awareness, home sensor network, home security, set-top boxes, etc.. The community consists of peoples from universities, research institutes as well as industries, providing an open forum for cooperation among the interest groups. The committee holds meetings, workshops, seminars to work on academic topics, to cooperate on standardizations, to promote the industry.

Internet

The Internet committee is a community of a diverse group of industry, government and educational professionals with a common interest about the Internet networking technology such as routing, QoS, traffic engineering, IPv6, wireless/mobile IP, VoIP and future Internet. To that end, the Society sponsors conferences, workshop, educational programs and regular exchange of technical works.

Korean Communications Software

The committee on Korean Communications Software (KCS) was founded in May 1996 within the Korean Information and Communications Society (KICS) and focuses various aspects on Communications Software. KCS actively encourages the exchange of information on the communications software aspects in fixed, mobile, and converged communication networks for voice, data, image, and video, and organizes and sponsors publications and discussions of these topics. Specific technical interests include architecture, development methodology, test and assessment, maintenance, inter-operability, modeling, performance analysis, and protocol of communications software.
Since its formation, KCS has provided a focus within KICS for the exchange of ideas among those who implements new communications networks, deploys new services, and developments new communications technologies and systems..
KCS hosted several International conferences including ICACT ??9, and sponsors two annual domestic conferences, COMSW and NCS .

Korean Network Operations and Management

The committee on Korean Network Operations and Management (KNOM) was founded in January 1996 within the Korean Information and Communications Society (KICS) and focuses various aspects on network operations and management. KNOM actively encourages the exchange of information on the operational and technical management aspects of public and private networks for voice, data, image, and video, and organizes and sponsors publications and discussions of these topics. Specific technical interests include automation of network operations, customer network management and control, knowledge-based technologies, real-time management of networks, and network-operations architectures.
Since its formation, KNOM has provided a focus within KICS for the exchange of ideas among those who plan and use operations, networks, new services, and new communications equipment and network management systems. In addition, a major goal of KNOM is to offer opportunities for dialog between end-users, providers, and manufacturers in the network operations and management discipline.
KNOM sponsors an annual international symposium, Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management (APNOMS) and domestic KNOM Conference and Tutorials. KNOM publishes KNOM Review bi-annually. KNOM interacts closely with the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM).
